Happy New Year Everypony!!
I'm proud to announce the release of version 0.3 of Ponyscape!! This is a continuation of the work on version 0.2, and includes some really cool new features! I've spent most of my time off during by holiday break working on and tweaking things in this release.
I have compiled binary packages for both Windows and Linux Mint 14 64-bit (should also work on Ubuntu 12.10). On Windows, download the zip file and extract it with 7zip or winrar and run ponyscape.exe. On Linux, download the deb package and install it by running "sudo dpkg -i <filename>" or using a GUI package installer of your choice. You can download these binary packages here:
Alternatively, you can download the entire source code and compile from scratch. I can confirm that compiling works on both Windows and Linux, and hopefully should work on MacOS as well. Compilation instructions can be found on Inkscape's wiki ( [link]
). As some people had difficulty with patching, I've packaged the entire source code, so hopefully it should be easy to compile following Inkscape's instructions.
Please note that this software is still somewhat experimental... I encourage you to use it, but please remember to save often (enabling autosave is also a good idea). If you come across any issues, want to give feedback, or have an idea for a future version of Ponyscape, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org .
I would like to give a huge thank you to my beta testers, who have helped me get this release stable!! You guys are awesome!
In addition to the new features in Ponyscape v0.1 ( [link]
) and v0.2 ( [link]
), here's what's new in this version (everything is custom):
This is a dialog which can be accessed by going to the Object menu and selecting Objects, or by pressing ctrl-shift-o. It displays all of your layers, paths, and objects. You can show/hide, lock/unlock, and rename any item in the list. You can also set a custom outline colour for any item by clicking on the fourth column and selecting a colour with an alpha > 0. If the outline is not set (alpha = 0), then it inherits from the parent group/layer. You can make this outline visible by toggling the last button on the toolbar when you are using the node tool (F2). Additionally, you can turn groups into layers and vice-versa by clicking on the icon in the third column.
You can also select multiple items within this dialog, and drag-n-drop works, so you can move whole groups of items to a different layer. Page-Up/Down and Shift-Page-Up/Down also work within the dialog, as do the buttons at the bottom of the list. Additionally, you can set the blend mode, blur, and opacity for any selected object.
The swatch system has been preliminarily been redone to allow swatch books to be created through the use of folders in the Palette directory. The name of each swatch page is listed, followed by the colors within the page. When you select "All" within a swatch book, it loads all swatch pages within that book into the dialog.
Additionally, courtesy of *RainbowRage12
, MLP swatches are now included by default! These include each of the Mane 6 ponies, Spike, and a few other ponies. You can display them in the bottom swatch bar by pressing the arrow in the corner of the bar and selecting MLP->All.
Currently, the swatch dialog and swatch system is still undergoing changes, you will eventually be able to save custom swatches and choose which swatch pages you want to display without needing to delve into the filesystem.
Packaged ellipse-by-5-point ( [link]
) and PSD-import ( [link]
) extensions by Epdtry
Fixed "Fill-Between-Strokes" path effect when applied to strokes which have path effects on them (such as spiro paths or attach-path). Additionally, fixed transforms (rotation, translation, scaling) for "Fill-Between-Strokes" when applied to objects within groups or to ellipses.
Revamped the Attach-Path path effect. You can now attach paths to either end of the path, and there are nodes on the canvas that you can use to adjust the connecting curves. You can also set the length and angle of the curve control points manually in the path effect dialog (ctrl-shift-7)
Fixed pen tool completion on tool switching. If you are creating a path and switch tools without completing it, it now automatically completes instead of being deleted.
Added powerstroke mode to pen tool (select the third button in the pen tool toolbar).
Packaged the new icon, which includes my OC, caramel curve.
